News and Events 2009 – 2010
For the students this year, major events included making pancakes on Pancake Day and an Easter Egg Hunt. In June they had a great time learning communication and collaboration strategies and games with the visiting teachers from our sister school, the Hill Center in North Carolina, USA.
For the staff this year, major events included hosting the Principal’s Dinner in October, when all the Principals and Directors of the International Schools in the La Côte area were invited by us for an evening meal, to share thoughts and ideas in an informal setting. Other highlights included our Professional Development Days. In March we partook of several lectures given at the 2008 International Dyslexia Association Conference in Seattle, Washington D.C. and in May we were fortunate to have Dr. Kate Saunders of the British Dyslexia Association spend the day with us at Oak Hill. She presented us with the latest research and thinking in our specialist field.
The major event in the Oak Hill year is undoubtedly the end-of-year Awards Ceremony and Barbecue. At the Awards Ceremony, the hard work and success of our students are recognised with a Certificate of Effort and Achievement. The barbecue is a heart-warming gathering of the Oak Hill family, attended by past, present and future students and their families. Although we finished the year with 15 students, over 80 people attended this very special event with mums, dads and staff all giving a helping hand to make it, once again, a most memorable evening for all.
